Have you heard about Reiki but aren't quite sure what it means?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a type of therapy that originated in Japan from Mikao Usui in 1922. At its core, Reiki is all about using energy to help heal the body and mind. It is both a healing and spiritual practice.
The word "Reiki" itself is made up of two Japanese words: "rei," which means universal, or vital-life force and "ki," which means life energy. Put together, Reiki means universal life-force or vital life-force energy.
Aside from the energy itself, Reiki, as a practice, combines a multitude of techniques and practices, including meditations, contemplations, energy techniques and hands-on Reiki therapy itself to utilise Reiki as an energy to heal the body and mind and foster greater spiritual connection.
HOW DOES REIK WORK?
Everything around us, including ourselves, is made up of energy. This energy creates and sustains all life. That is Reiki. Sometimes this energy can stagnate or get out of balance as a result of trauma, emotions, toxins, stress, spiritual disconnection and life in general, leading to physical or emotional problems.
That's where Reiki comes in. A trained Reiki practitioner uses their hands on the clothed body of the recipient to connect the recipient to this energy, the Reiki, and Reiki, having its own Higher Intelligence, removes anything unlike itself, clearing stagnation, unwanted emotions and past traumas, removing toxins and restoring balance. Of course there is some mystery and spiritual connection strengthened through Reiki which also helps return to our natural state of inner being, creating a sense of absolute inner peace and connected to one and all.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A REIKI SESSION?
During a Reiki session, you might lie down or sit comfortably, fully clothed. The practitioner then places their hands lightly on or near your body, moving them around to different areas. You might feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation during the session.

HOW CAN REIKI HELP ME?
People turn to Reiki for all sorts of reasons. Some use it to help manage pain, reduce stress, relief symptoms of anxiety or depression, grief or cope with emotional issues and major life transitions.
Some have Reiki to strengthen their relationship with self to foster greater self-love, spiritual connection or to gain clarity on a particular issue of life in general.
People have found Reiki to be incredibly supportive and comforting at end of life, both to help reduce symptoms and to promote a sense of absolute inner peace and gentle transition.
Some seek out Reiki to help them cope with physical pain or ailments or to reduce side effects of treatment such as chemo or radiation, while others find it helps them feel more balanced and connected with themselves and the world around them.
One of the great things about Reiki is that it's non-invasive and doesn't require any special equipment. There are no contraindications and it's a gentle, loving and natural way to tap into the body's own healing abilities.
Many people swear by its benefits after having tried many other modalities for their healing and often will utilise Reiki alongside mainstream therapies such as Counselling or medications. Most recipients of Reiki report feel incredibly calmed and soothed and held by the loving, compassionate energy of Reiki during sessions.
Whether you're looking for relief from physical discomfort, a way to unwind and de-stress, or simply curious about alternative therapies, Reiki is worth exploring.
