It’s so wonderful to hear when a student feels a deepening of their practice through learning the advanced techniques of Level II (Chuden).

The practices in this level build on the daily foundation established in Level I, offering more specific ways to support the emotional and mental aspects of healing, using techniques to bolster and target aspects of physical healing as well as working across distance. Using symbols to target aspect of the energy and understanding their meaning, also offer a depth of spiritual meaning that may continue to unfold over time and continue to deepen with practice! This is what makes them so exciting to work with!

We also begin to explore the cultural and spiritual context that Usui Sensei would have naturally woven into the practices—touching on elements of Shinto, Buddhism that would have naturally shaped Reiki. This gives us a much deeper understanding of the practices themselves, and the opportunities that live within them.

I’m so grateful to have received this Chuden student’s reflection….it’s really such an honour to witness shifts unfold in students as they continue to dive deeper into their practice! 🙏🏽🤍

Reiki nerd alert!! 🔊🔊🔊

Yesterday was a big day in the world of Reiki—and I was lucky to be surrounded by a group of passionate students to share the moment with in real time!

Framed here beside Usui Sensei in my Reiki healing room is the handwritten version of the Gokai (the Japanese Reiki Principles), which forms the foundation of the spiritual and healing practice of Reiki. Usui Sensei regarded these as the number one spiritual practice.

Until now, we’ve never known who penned this version. It was long thought to be written by someone else, and while it carried Usui’s name, the signature had never been verified.

We’ve also had no primary documents confirming aspects of Mikao Usui’s life before founding Reiki. This was partly because many records were lost during the war—but also because he wasn’t famous before Reiki, so finding documented history has always been difficult.

Yesterday, Dr. Justin Stein—a scholar with a PhD in the study of religion, who specialises in modern Japanese spiritual practices like Reiki—shared original documents verifying parts of Usui’s life prior to founding Reiki. This is HUGE! It reveals what a brilliant, multifaceted mind he had—accomplished in law, psychology, teaching, English & more. Doubts were cast about the story that he travelled & studied overseas during his lifetime, but these documents verified this to be true.

The documents also bridge some of the ‘made up’ stories passed down in Western Reiki by Takata Sensei, who had to adapt his story due to American–Japanese tensions at the time. But what’s so fascinating is that many of those altered stories were actually rooted in truth.

And the most exciting part? The version of the Gokai that is hanging in my Reiki room, & that we’ve been reading and feeling into was written by Mikao Usui himself! Among the documents was his handwritten CV, signed by him—and the handwriting and signature match the Gokai.

I’ve always asked students in Level I to scan their hands over the Gokai to feel the undeniable energy they carry—but I never knew they were actually written by Usui Sensei himself. That makes the connection even more extraordinary!! 🙏🏽🤍🥰

What an exceptional group of four humans this was (one was camera shy…although you might catch her hands in some of the photos! 😋) — and what an incredible weekend we shared!

As we dove deep into the advanced traditional Reiki techniques of a level 2 Chuden, the curiosity, enthusiasm, and genuine presence from each participant created something so special! The questions, insights, and shared experiences made for a deeply impactful weekend for us all!

Each person brought something unique to the space — adding depth, humour, vulnerability, and strength. I feel so grateful to have shared this time with them and absolutely cannot wait to witness how their connection to Reiki continues to grow, both personally and professionally. They each have so much to offer this world!

I feel bathed in the energy of the group and the love of Reiki itself.

As I get ready to welcome back students from Level I, continuing to guide and support them on their continuing and deepening journey with Reiki II, I am taking this moment before they arrive, to acknowledge myself.

It’s been an epic task to prepare all the materials and teaching aids for this second Level and it’s also been a time to reflect on how far I’ve come, through all the ups and downs of my own journey with Reiki, of having incredible mentors and also having people who saw me as a threat and tried to dim my light, using their power and authority in a way that is contrary to the Reiki Way.

All of these events and experiences have not only taught me so much and helped me grow, they have led me to where I am meant to be. Free, unfettered and able to continue to grow into my own Light.

Just taking a moment of pause and gratitude, and to feel proud of my path and my own continuing journey. Perhaps you too can take a moment of pause for yourself and your own journey in life. To also acknowledge yourself, how far you have come and to feel proud for everything you are and have achieved! Big love! 🙏🏽🤍🥰

We might arrive expecting to learn how to help others, but Reiki gently returns us to ourselves. Again and again.
